Victorian Furniture – Majestic Designs from Victorian Era

What is Victorian Furniture

During the early 19th century during the reign of Queen Victoria, the furniture was designed with stylish motifs and heavy carving designs. The furniture were mostly in antique gold paint to provide the royal look to the place, thus known as Victorian furniture.

Victorian Furniture was specially designed in solid wood with pattern and carving designs. It is a mixture of many other styles including Gothic, Tudor, Elizabethan, Rococo, and Neoclassic, with Gothic and Rococo being the most common. Due to the mixture of many styles, Victorian furniture cannot be identified easily. However, it does have its own charisma and authenticity.

The heavy fabric was used in furniture to make them look antique and royal.  This high-style furniture is known for its intricate carving.

Victorian Characteristics

  1. Different type of Patterns:

Intricate carving is the main characteristic of Victorian furniture. The carving can be floral, leaf, arch, or it can be linear or curvy. It can also be a mixture of these patterns also. Further, this style can be determined by angular shape and lines with carving as in the video below:

  1. Material:

Originally, Victorian Furniture was primarily made from Walnut and Mahogany wood. At Aarsun today, we primarily use Teak Wood or Rosewood for making those intricate carvings. Teak Wood and Rosewood are among the top hardwood types for making wooden furniture in India.

  1. Color & Finishing:

To be specific, the design is highly appreciated in Dark Polish or Paint to match the 1800s theme. We also provide Silver, Rose Gold, and Antique Gold. The furniture can also be polished or paint in dual shades (White & Gold/Walnut & Black) or with highlighting to give depth and clarity to the intricate carvings on the units.

    1. Upholstery:

During the era, velvet and leather were the most liked fabric. The time period saw the people in awe with the plump seats covered with fabric and cushions. Various types of fabric were used and color was usually dark. Nowadays, in order to match the modern seating arrangements, clients often go with monotones or lighter floral patterns, and also have replaced leather with leatherette or faux leather as it is called sometimes.

Among the new modern styles, the old and majestic look of antique furniture gives a new perspective and a positive change from the common looks we see at homes.

The Victorian-era furniture units hold an emotional value and they are closer to nature with their floral patterns all over.

Victorian Furniture tops the list of luxury furniture units often sought by the buyers. It is not only about the luxurious feel of the units, but it is also about getting something that can be cherished for years and years. As said earlier, these units are handcrafted in the finest quality woods which in turn gives them the strength to endure almost every season of the year. One can rightfully say that Victorian furniture can be passed onto future generations without any thought.
