Pongal: A four-day harvest festival celebrated in January, Pongal is a time for farmers to give thanks for a bountiful crop.

Puthandu: Marking the Tamil New Year, Puthandu usually falls in April.

Thai Poosam: This vibrant festival in January or February is dedicated to Lord Murugan, the Hindu god of war. Devotees undertake a pilgrimage to temples carrying kavadis (decorated structures) and spears, while others pierce their bodies with needles or hooks in a display of devotion.

Navratri and Dussehra: These nine-day and ten-day festivals, respectively, celebrate the victory of good over evil.

Deepawali: The festival of lights, Deepawali, is celebrated with great enthusiasm in Coimbatore. Homes are decorated with diyas (clay lamps), firecrackers are burst, and sweets are exchanged.

Onam: A harvest festival of Kerala, Onam is celebrated with grandeur by the Malayali community in Coimbatore.  Elaborate floral arrangements (Ona Sadhya) are prepared, and folk dances like Kathakali are performed.

Christmas: With a sizeable Christian population, Coimbatore celebrates Christmas with joy and fervor. Churches are decorated, carol singing fills the air, and special Christmas cakes and sweets are savored.

Seedling Planting Festival:  A unique festival held in June, the Seedling Planting Festival promotes agriculture and environmental consciousness.  People plant saplings and take a pledge to protect trees.
